The reality is most people have a real job – not one where they get to travel the world on a whim. And, chances are, most will get between 20 and 25 days holiday per year, depending on how nice their employers are. So finding cheap weekend breaks is at the top of many of our lists – and the further afield the more it feels like a break, right?

However, by the time you’ve even considered exploring a new destination full of interesting cultures, pubs selling beer for a pound, and gastronomic mind blowers, you’re likely to want to use your hard earned annual leave on the beach break equivalent of Netflix and chill.  That’s provided you’ve not used all your leave on dentist appointments, funerals, and untimely weddings.

In London , the average salary means that a single day’s annual leave is worth £184 – a cost that we don’t directly see but one that hits us hard when totting up available days on the beach or bowls of turkey soup at Christmas. If you’re up for some early starts and late nights, and are lucky enough to live in London, then there are some pretty awesome places to explore, with cheap weekend breaks being the solution!

For the best options open your mind to flying out from one airport and back into another. Of course, it depends on where you live as to how convenient this would be, but in many cases, it is the best way to fly cheaply.

London is also a massive place, so if you’re lucky enough to find convenient flights in and out of the same airport, consider driving and leaving your car nearby; if there is more than one of you costs work out similar to taking the bus from central. SkyParkSecure.com offer 48 hour parking at airports across London from £19.99 and can simply give you a space to leave it – or if you’re feeling a little more plush – meet and great you at the aiport.

If you’re a solo traveller and don’t mind shacking up in a hostel then you’ll have even more choice, with hostels in most cities costing around £15-£20. Booking.com now offer hostels, but my trust favourites have always been hostelworld.

Enjoy your one night stands!

P.S – Note that my cheap weekend breaks guide may not be accurate at the time you search. This was accurate as of 22nd October – but these things change very fast. This post is more of a guide as to the types of places that are pretty cheap, and the available scheduled flights to these destinations.
