For less that £100 I’d bagged myself a cheap spring weekend in Nice. The flights, just 1.5 hours and the airport a short bus journey from the centre; it was easy, simple and stress-free!

My long weekend to Nice wasn’t about trawling round museums or consuming overly expensive food. Instead, my break to the Cote D’Azur was an opportunity for some new scenery and a different location from which to work.

beach in nice

On the first evening, after checking into the Aparthotel Adagio Access Nice Acropoli, I was straight on the beach with a can of Heineken

It’s not a sand beach and so a walk, sit or lay doesn’t have to be planned with towels and spare clothes.

Splitting the centre of Nice, right down the middle is Boulevard Jean Jaures. It carries the major tram route, and is bordered by a series of Parks right down to the sea. There is wifi, seats and grass – making for the perfect office location.

Place Massena, nice
Place Massena, nice

Place Massena, just off the main road provides a great place to pause for a picture, food or even, like me, catch up on emails. As the road continues it becomes more of a shopping area which is great to explore and stock up on essentials if you’re self-catering like me.

The Thursday and Friday were unavoidable working days, but I managed to explore further as I hopped from café to café south of the Boulevard Jean Jaures. Buildings packed tightly together provide shade in the narrow streets in the summer, and give a winding, shrouded and cosy feel to the alley ways., As you head towards the sea through these long alleys, you step out into beautiful, blue skies and warming sun.

At the weekend I took the opportunity to hire a car. But, with the cheapest option being £75 I decided to do some research. Wondering around I came across Auto Bleu Car Hire in Nice – an electric car hire system run by the tourism board. Signing up was quick and easy and pretty soon I was off – exploring the nearby areas of Cannes, Antibes and Monaco!
